FIRST ROYAL ARREST IN MODERN ROYAL HISTORY
The British monarchy dates back to 927 AD, spanning more than 1,000 years. However, in the era of the modern constitutional monarchy, no senior royal has previously been arrested.
On February 19, 2026, Former Prince Andrew, now Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was arrested at his home on the Sandringham estate on his 66th birthday. He is reported to be the first senior member of the modern British royal family to be arrested.
The arrest relates to allegations of misconduct in public office connected to his time as U.K. trade envoy and his association with Jeffrey Epstein. Police also conducted searches at Sandringham and a former residence in Windsor.
In October 2025, King Charles removed Andrew’s royal titles and honors amid renewed scrutiny. He remains eighth in line to the throne.
