Andy Reid provides the latest update on Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ ACL rehab Read more at:
It’s been three weeks since Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes underwent surgery to repair his torn ACL and LCL, injuries he suffered in the team’s Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chiefs have estimated it will take roughly nine months before Mahomes returns to play. On Monday, head coach Andy Reid said the process has gone well so far.
“First of all, he’s doing great for just being three weeks out or so,” Reid said, via Zoom. “He’ll go ahead and most likely stay up here (in Kansas City) for the majority of the time rehabbing. He and Julie (Frymyer). She’s the person that does all that, and he has a lot of trust in her, and he’s just been in there grinding. That’s what I can tell you. I think that will just continue until we get started again — not that he won’t take a break here or there.
” Mahomes didn’t travel with the team for its final two road games in Tennessee and Las Vegas, but he watched the home finale against the Denver Broncos from his suite at Arrowhead. Social media posts have shown him wearing an extensive knee brace and spending time with family.
He’s in that early process where you’ve got to really hit it hard,” Reid said. “It’s not necessarily a fun thing to do every day, but the important thing is that you show up and you keep coming back for more, and he’s been doing that.” Mahomes is expected to close out the season with his own video news conference Tuesday.
