Big Brother’s Cameron Cole left with black eye and cuts on face after homophobic attack
A Big Brother star has revealed he was out celebrating his birthday when he was ‘targeted with homophobia and slurs’ before he was violently attacked when he was along
A Big Brother star has been left shaken up and with injuries to his face after a cruel homophobic attack on a night out.
Cameron Cole, who won the reality series in 2018, shared shocking photos of his injuries to Instagram, revealing the awful incident left him with a black eye as well as cuts to his nose and lip
Cameron, 26, revealed in the caption how he was targeted by ‘homophobia and slurs’ while out for his birthday, before he was later ‘attacked’ when he was alone. He heartbreakingly admitted the terrifying incident has left him shaken and feeling vulnerable.
The reality star, who did not reveal the location of the alleged homophobic attack, wrote in the caption: “I had a beautiful birthday surrounded by love, yet still came face-to-face with people who chose hate and violence! They targeted me with homophobia and slurs, and later attacked me when I was alone.
“It shook me. It made me feel vulnerable in a way no one should ever have to feel, especially not for just existing and being me, I thank my friend (CARZ) for looking after me and taking care of me, but it should never of come to that
“But here’s what I realised: this isn’t just about me, or just about the LGBTQ+ community. It’s about every minority, every marginalised voice, everyone who has been told they don’t belong, the politics, the government, the people, they want to divide us but they will not win.
It was my birthday and I had a wonderful day but the attack has shaken me but it’s given me a fire and fight to fight these people off. You will not win. Keep trying but you will fail!”
Cameron was flooded with messages of support from shocked followers. One wrote: “Wait wth, why would ppl do this you deserve so much better than this,,” [sic] Another added: “I’m so sorry to read this. Sending you my thoughts”.
Meanwhile fellow former Big Brother housemate Akeem Griffiths added: “Hope you are ok mate. This is awful and just so wrong. Always here for you if you need to talk to someone.”
Cameron was just 19 years old when he was crowned the winner of Big Brother in 2018 – in what was thought to be the final series of the show.
He broke down in tears as it was announced he had won the public vote and told host Emma Willis at the time: “I’m completely and utterly shell shocked this is the most incredible feeling of my life, I thought I’d be out the first week.”
He added: “This is the like the miracle, I don’t know what to say. I got what I expected and a hundred times more, an unbelievably positive way, it’s the most life changing experience in the world, the situations you find yourself him, I am so so grateful.”
In a touching moment while in the house, Cameron came out about his sexuality after first speaking with pal Lewis F, who he grew close to and credited for supporting him. He said at the time: “I definitely I’d never have done it without him, I’d never been so comfortable to help me the way he did and help me do I’d never be so grateful.
“I planned not to say anything about it, what I forgot is that 24/7 cameras are everywhere you can’t go into your bedroom and cry about it.”
