Just In: Disputed Allegations Drive GOP Push for Omar Immigration Files

Rep. Nancy Mace said the House Oversight Committee is taking steps to force the release of immigration records connected to Rep. Ilhan Omar and her brother, citing allegations of possible immigration fraud.

Mace said the committee plans to pursue the records through compulsory measures, writing in a social media post that the documents could shed light on claims Omar married a relative to gain U.S. citizenship. She said the request follows recent committee actions involving alleged benefits fraud in Minnesota.

“We are moving to subpoena Rep. Ilhan Omar and her brother/husband’s immigration records,” Mace wrote, saying the accusations raise concerns about potential federal marriage fraud and related violations. She added that, if substantiated, such conduct could lead to denaturalization and deportation.

Omar has rejected the allegations, saying she is being targeted by false and bigoted attacks from political opponents. She has consistently maintained that the claims are baseless and meant to damage her reputation.

Any attempt to revoke U.S. citizenship would require proceedings in federal court and clear evidence of fraud or misrepresentation during the naturalization process. The Oversight Committee has not said when subpoenas might be issued or what further steps it may take.
