Machine Gun Kelly Reveals How His Daughter Casie, 15, Helped Him Decide to Get Sober: ‘Broke My Heart…see more
Machine Gun Kelly is sharing how his 15-year-old daughter helped him make the decision to get sober.
The rapper, born Colson Baker, 34, appeared on the Sunday, Aug. 18 episode of the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast and shared that he was prompted to get sober after a conversation he had with his daughter Casie.
It started with my daughter saying, ‘Dad, you know I can tell when you’re high.’ It broke my heart,” Kelly said on the podcast. “It was the ultimate let down.”
Kelly went on to say that his daughter was only 11 or 12 at the time.
“It took me a while afterward, because obviously drugs have a vice grip on you,” he continued. “That was step one for me. As a father and as a man, to be the father I wish my dad would have been, I have to break this generational curse for my kid.”
Earlier this month, Kelly shared that he’s one year sober during an appearance on on Bunnie Xo’s podcast Dumb Blonde. The musician opened up about dealing with both mental health and alcohol abuse, revealing in the episode that he is “completely sober from everything.”
“I don’t drink anymore. I haven’t drank since last August,” he said. “That was my first time I ever went to rehab.”
MGK went on to reveal that he previously abused alcohol, marijuana and pills.
In July, Kelly gave a rare look at his life as a dad as he marked his daughter’s 15th birthday with a sweet birthday tribute on his Instagram.
In the first photo, the dad and daughter duo can be seen posing together under a giant pink heart-shaped balloon arch, complete with pink balloon letters that spell out “HBD Casie.”
“The world spins but when i look at you it stops. Happy 15th princess ,” the proud dad captioned his post.
The musician shared several more photos from throughout Casie’s life, including a few adorable throwbacks of a much younger Casie fixing her dad’s mohawk and playing her dad’s guitar.
In more recent shots, the teen and her father watched a basketball game, chilled on the beach and rode a motorcycle.
