Actress Kate Winslet delivered a personally-penned reading at the Princess of Wales’ carol service.

The Oscar-winning star was invited by the royal’s staff to write something inspired by the theme of the Westminster Abbey event, ‘Love’ – and said she was delighted to.

She could be seen engaging in conversation with the Princess, who was wearing earrings by British jeweller Robinson Pelham, as they greeted each other before the service.

She wrote: ‘Love doesn’t always arrive wrapped in ribbons. Love can be expressed in how we treat one another, with kindness and grace. It’s in the laughter shared across a table, a handheld in comfort, the courage to reach out to someone who might otherwise be alone.’

Winslet was one of a number of celebrities who have offered their services for the festive event – including actress and performer Hannah Waddingham – but was keen to ensure the focus remained on the ‘unsung community heroes’ that the Princess wants to thanks.

She said: ‘At this special time of year, we’re reminded that love takes many forms – in families, in friendship, in the simple act of being there for one another. Those connections – with neighbours, friends, and even strangers – lift our communities and make others feel like they belong. We all deserve to belong.
