Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes recently went viral over a now-debunked Facebook post, allegedly stating that the three-time Super Bowl champion would boycott Bad Bunny’s 2026 Super Bowl halftime performance.

The Kansas City Chiefs fan page, Sunday at Arrowhead, shared the controversial post on Sunday, claiming that Mahomes said he would join Turning Point USA, the right-wing organization founded by Charlie Kirk, according to Primetimer.

I’m an American — I’d rather take part in an All-American event to honor Charlie Kirk than join the NFL’s circus,” Mahomes allegedly said, according to the fan page.

While it has been confirmed that Mahomes’ alleged remarks were false, the 30-year-old athlete has not commented on Kirk’s assassination or on Bad Bunny being chosen as the Super Bowl halftime performer.

Meanwhile, Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, shared a post on Instagram the day after Kirk’s death, quoting author Sharon McMahon.

“Hate will not get us out of this mess. Your feelings might lie and try to tell you otherwise, but hate doesn’t know how to heal or build, only how to harm and destroy,” Brittany wrote.

Over the past year, Mahomes and his wife have drawn attention for their perceived political views, especially as the 2024 presidential election approached.

Blavity reported that in August 2024, Brittany faced backlash over a MAGA post she liked on Instagram, which many interpreted as a sign of support for then-Republican nominee Donald Trump.

The move caused a stir among her divided followers, which is not the first time Brittany has been linked to political posts on the platform.

In September, Mahomes commented on his political stance, stating that he would rather not use his platform for anything political.

“I think I’ve always said I don’t want my place and my platform to be used to endorse a candidate or do whatever either way,” Mahomes told A to Z Sports.

“I think my place is to inform people to get registered to vote, is to inform people to do their own research and then make their best decision for them and their family,” Patrick mentioned. He also noted that he would continue to answer reporters with this same response, saying, “I think every time I’m on this stage and I get asked these questions, I’m going to refer back to that because I think that’s what makes America so great,” he added.
