Patrick Mahomes Loses Spot in NFL History on Sunday

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs couldn’t secure a fourth consecutive win, falling to 5-4 on the 2025 NFL season after a 28-21 loss to Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in Week 9. Mahomes had one of his worst games of the year, completing 15-of-34 passes (44.1%) for 250 yards and an interception, adding another five yards on the ground.

The same can’t be said for Drake Maye and the New England Patriots, who are now 7-2 after taking down the Atlanta Falcons 24-23 on Sunday afternoon. Maye, the second-year quarterback out of North Carolina, completed 19-of-29 passes for 259 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, finishing with a passer rating of 102.5.

Maye, 23, has been one of the league’s top quarterbacks in 2025, throwing for 2,285 yards, 17 touchdowns, and just four interceptions through nine games. His 259 yards and 102.5 passer rating against the Falcons marked his eighth consecutive game with at least 200 passing yards and a passer rating of 100 or higher, a streak dating back to Week 2.

In doing so, Maye has now broken the record for the most consecutive games with those numbers for a player under 24 years old, surpassing Mahomes. The Chiefs quarterback accomplished at least 200 passing yards and a 100 passer rating in seven straight games from Weeks 6 to 13 of the 2018 NFL season, the same year he won his first NFL MVP award.

While Mahomes and the Chiefs will take some time to recover with a bye in Week 10, Maye and the Patriots will hit the road, facing Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
