Patrick Mahomes’ response to winning major ESPY award
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback had some kind words for Andy Reid, too.
The 2024 ESPY Awards came and went on Thursday night, with Serena Williams hosting the prominent event. Highlighted by a Ciara performance, a big dig at Harrison Butker and a heartwarming moment with Steve Gleason, several athletes and teams saw their merits get recognized with awards.
Chief among those recipients was Patrick Mahomes, who took home the ESPY for Best Athlete: Men’s Sports. Following a second Super Bowl triumph in consecutive seasons, the Kansas City Chiefs signal-caller rightfully saw his name called, although he wasn’t actually there in person to accept the award.
Andy Reid accepts ESPYS award for Patrick Mahomes
His head coach, Andy Reid, accepted the award on his behalf. Mahomes took to X shortly after and praised the other nominees, as well as “Big Andy”.
Mahomes beat out AL MVP Shohei Ohtani, NHL star Connor McDavid and golf savant Scottie Scheffler for the award. Mahomes clearly was impressed that he could beat out those guys, who had simply incredible years along with him.
It’s the second year in a row that Mahomes has won the award. Considering that the Chiefs improved the receiving corps during the offseason, we could be seeing Mahomes go for a three-peat both in terms of championships and ESPY awards
