Taylor Swift’s First Post-Engagement Outfit May Be a Wedding Dress Easter Egg

Affectionately, I feel so high school every time I look at Taylor Swift.

For her very first public outing as an engaged woman, Swift attended a college football game with fiancé Travis Kelce dressed like literally any girl I went to high school with between the years [redacted] and [redacted]. For some context, I went to a former Catholic school-turned-nonsectarian institution in New England, where polo shirts and Patagonia fleece jackets were considered the height of fashion on casual Fridays.

That means Taylor Swift’s white Polo Ralph Lauren sweater vest and pleated denim skirt, which she paired with knee-high Louis Vuitton suede boots, is an outfit any of the popular girls at my school would have worn to Friday football games…if we’d been big enough to have a football team. Kelce himself rocked a red and white striped rugby shirt that our entire lacrosse team owned in green. Go Highlanders.

None of this is to say that Taylor Swift is dressing like a teenager, but that she’s recommitting to that classic collegiate vibe she embraced before the release of The Tortured Poets Department—an aesthetic that feels like the most authentic representation of her personal style (that Ralph Lauren oversized rugby top and knee-high boot combo is still my favorite Swift look to date). Why does this matter? Well, “your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married” and Swifties have already started to predict what she’ll wear, so it’s time I throw my hat in the ring. Given that Swift can tend to fixate on specific designers and silhouettes—you may recall all of last season’s corseted Vivienne Westwood numbers—it feels notable that Swift wore a Polo Ralph Lauren sweater vest for her first day out after announcing her engagement in a Polo Ralph Lauren dress.

Think of how well a custom, yet timeless Ralph Lauren gown would go with that heirloom-coded Kindred Lubeck engagement ring. Quick, someone play “Last Great American Dynasty.”

While appearing on her fiancé’s podcast, Taylor Swift said she’s never going to plant an Easter egg that ties back to her personal life and it’s very unlikely the pop star has already picked out a wedding dress. Just think of this as an indicator of where her head is at sartorially and where that may lead. Personally, I think Ralph Lauren can expect a phone call any day now.
