Tory Lanez’s Legal Team Claims New Evidence Proves His Innocence in Megan Thee Stallion Shooting
Tory Lanez’s legal team claims they’ve uncovered new evidence that could exonerate him in the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, but courts remain unconvinced. Lanez, who is currently serving a 10-year sentence, was convicted of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying an unregistered loaded firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
His attorneys now argue that the DNA evidence presented during trial was inconclusive and misrepresented to the jury. They also cite a statement from Lanez’s driver, Jauquan Smith, who allegedly saw Megan’s friend, Kelsey Harris, with a gun—suggesting she may have been the shooter. However, the California Attorney General’s Office rejected this as not qualifying as new evidence, stating Smith never saw who fired the weapon.
Additionally, Lanez’s team claims that an incriminating Instagram comment suggesting Kelsey wasn’t the shooter was posted by a content creator managing his account, not Lanez himself.
Despite these arguments, a judge denied a motion for a new trial in 2023, ruling that none of the presented claims warranted overturning the original verdict. Lanez remains incarcerated, though his legal team continues to pursue appeals based on these disputed points.
