In a jaw-dropping interview that should alarm every patriotic American and faithful Christian, Pope Leo has declared that “God turns a deaf ear to the prayers of anyone involved in war.” No qualifiers. No nuance. Just a blanket condemnation of soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines who put their lives on the line so the rest of us can sleep safely.

This isn’t profound theology—it’s reckless pacifism dressed up in a white cassock.

Look, the Church has never been squeamish about just war. Saint Augustine and Saint Thomas Aquinas laid it out centuries ago: when evil men invade, rape, and murder, the righteous have not only the right but the duty to stop them. The American military has done exactly that—from the beaches of Normandy to the mountains of Afghanistan. Our troops pray before missions. They pray for their buddies. They pray for victory over barbarism. Are we now supposed to believe the Creator of the universe plugs His ears because these men and women answered the call?

Tell that to the Gold Star families who’ve buried sons and daughters who died asking God to watch over their platoons. Tell the Marine who stormed Fallujah that heaven ignored him while he dragged a wounded brother to safety. This statement doesn’t just insult our military—it insults the God who inspired the very concept of righteous battle.

Conservatives have long warned that parts of the Vatican have drifted leftward, more concerned with climate encyclicals and open borders than the hard realities of a dangerous world. Pope Leo’s remark proves the point. It’s the kind of naïve pronouncement that plays well in European salons but collapses the moment someone kicks in your door at 3 a.m.

Our warriors aren’t warmongers. They’re the thin red line between civilization and chaos. God doesn’t turn a deaf ear to them—He stands with them. The real question is whether the modern Church still remembers whose side it’s on.
