Ending the Era of Career Politicians: The Push for Term Limits

The call for congressional term limits has become a centerpiece of the “Drain the Swamp” movement, and the proposal to limit House members to six years (three terms) and Senators to twelve years (two terms) would fundamentally reshape Washington. As of 2026, the numbers are more dramatic than ever: under these specific limits, approximately 85% of the House and a vast majority of the Senate would be ineligible to serve, triggering a massive wave of fresh leadership and new ideas.

For decades, entrenched elites have utilized their longevity in office to build personal wealth and cater to special interests, often leaving the concerns of everyday Americans behind. Proponents of this reform argue that public service was never intended to be a lifelong career, and that the only way to break the cycle of corruption is to ensure a regular rotation of citizen-legislators. While the “legacy media” and career politicians often dismiss these efforts, the demand for accountability continues to grow, with over 140 members of Congress in 2026 now pledged to support a constitutional amendment to make these limits a reality.
