Minneapolis Shooting Fallout: VP Vance Says ICE Agent Is Legally Untouchable”
Vice President JD Vance said an ICE agent who fatally shot Renee Nicole Good during an immigration operation in Minneapolis is shielded by “absolute immunity,” arguing that the agent’s actions were lawful while speaking with reporters.
In a roughly 30-minute briefing, Vance said the agent was carrying out a critical duty for the country and referenced a June incident in which the same agent was dragged by a suspect’s vehicle. He reiterated his earlier claim that Good’s death was “a tragedy of her own making.”
According to Vance, the agent acted within the scope of federal authority during the operation and is therefore covered by legal protections afforded to officers performing official duties.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said he doubts the federal investigation will produce a fair outcome, pointing out that local authorities were excluded from the process.
Federal officials said the investigation into the shooting is still ongoing and that any conclusions will be handled at the federal level.
